'We wanted to put up show, and we did that well' - Rohit Sharma delighted after T20I series win against Australia
India managed a strong comeback to win the series 2-1 against Australia.
After a disappointing campaign in the recent Asia Cup 2022, India still had a lot of questions to be answered. However, the Rohit Sharma-led side have managed to pull off a strong comeback after going 0-1 down early in the three-match series against Australia. The series decider went right down to the wire with India needing four off the last two deliveries, and Hardik Pandya finished off the game in style to clinch the series 2-1.
Suryakumar Yadav’s 69 off 36 balls included five sixes and five fours and it changed the momentum in the favour of the chasing side despite the two openers falling early. Virat Kohli played his part with a scintillating half century as the 187-run target never looked enough against the strong Indian batting line up. The return of Jasprit Bumrah into the side did make a difference but Bumrah had an off day with the ball in the final T20I as he conceded 50 runs.
The biggest positives was different individuals stepping up: Rohit Sharma
Rohit mentioned the love for Hyderabad, recalling a lot of memories at the venue and went on to reveal the plans to put on a show. He further was impressed with different players stepping up in each game and felt that errors are bound to happen in the format. The 35 year-old was happy to see the team holding on to the chances while he noted the areas which needs to be addressed ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
"It (Hyderabad) is a special place. We have had a lot of memories with the India team and with Deccan Chargers. [On the game] It was a great occasion. We wanted to put up a show, and we did that well. The biggest positives was different individuals stepping up with the ball and bat. When you are sitting back and watching all of that happening, you feel nice as a management. Sometimes you can make errors in doing a lot of things,” Rohit told in the post match conference.
“This is T20 cricket, and the margins of error are very small. I thought we took our chances, we were brave. Sometimes it didn't come off, but that is a learning we will take. There are a lot of areas, particularly, our death bowling coming to the party. Those two (Harshal and Bumrah) who came in are coming after a long time. Knowing their (Australia's) middle and lower order is tough to bowl at. Don't really want to look into that. They are coming after a break, they will take time. Hopefully, they can get back in the groove," he added.
