Indian women's cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been on the receiving end as former cricketers and administrators have criticised her for her behaviour in the third ODI against Bangladesh. Kaur smashed the stumps after being given out by the umpire, and eventually the game and series ended in a draw. In the post-match presentation, she continued her outburst and mocked the umpires. Considering all this, the International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a two-match ban on the Indian captain.

In a fresh row, the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah has said that BCCI president Roger Binny and National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman will talk to Kaur on this issue. Interestingly, the Indian Cricket Board didn’t appeal against the two-match ban enforced by the ICC. Apart from the ban, Kaur's 50% match fee was deducted, and three demerit points were added to her cumulative record.  

“We will have our President Roger Binny and VVS Laxman speak to her (regarding the outburst). The ICC has already banned her and the time to appeal against the decision has already passed,” said Shah to the reporters after the BCCI meeting with the state association for the ODI World Cup 2023.

However, Kaur was banned, and surely this decision has hurt the Indian side more, as the right-handed batter will now miss the first two games of the Asian Games. Women’s cricket will take place in the Asian Games 2022 in China, which will be held on September 19, 2023. 

Speaking of the ODI series, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lost the first game but came back strongly in the second game to make a comeback in the series. The third game was a do or die for both sides. Team India were chasing the target of 226 runs, but Bangladesh's bowler bowled brilliantly and bowled out the Indian side for 225 runs.

Harmanpreet's controversial decision erupted in the 34th over when the visitors were on 160 runs as she was given LBW out. Kaur claimed that she got the bottom edge, but with no DRS available in the series, the Indian skipper could not review the decision at that moment. The Indian team's record and stats against Bangladesh had been terrific but this series was a forgettable one. Eventually, both teams shared the trophy.
