Punjab Kings became the second team to crash out of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024, after five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Losing their recent clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Kings registered their eighth loss of the season in 12 matches, which meant that they no longer could make it to the knockout stages of the tournament.
RCB hammered the side by 60 runs in Dharamshala as aiming to chase down a mammoth target of 242 runs, PBKS’ batters put in their best effort. However, it was still not enough in the end.
After their elimination from the tournament, Punjab Kings’ stand-in skipper Sam Curran came forward and apologized to the fans for their elimination from the tournament, but opined that the side will look to learn from the loss and improve.
"We had some highs, and some record run-chases as well. Lots of disappointment and apologize to the fans, we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard,” Sam Curran said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
A lot of positive signs throughout the season: Curran
Furthermore, Sam Curran talked about how much of an honor it has been for him to lead Punjab Kings’ squad, and how there were many positive things to take from the season. He also highlighted how important it was to keep their heads held high.
"A lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line, unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and felt gutted for the team. Gotta keep our heads up, keep learning, and keep becoming better. Really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys, would have loved a few more wins,” Curran said.
Despite getting eliminated, Punjab Kings still have two matches left in the IPL 2024 group stages. For their next clash, the side will take on Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 15 and will travel to Hyderabad to take on SRH on May 19.
