We're not looking at predictions, solely focused on what we have to do: Tom Latham

“Yeah, I think from our point of view, I'm sure, like most teams, we're not necessarily focused on what people are predicting," stand-in skipper Latham said ahead of the 2023 World Cup opener.

New Zealand are all set to kick off the ODI World Cup 2023 as the side takes on Jos Buttler-led England in the season opener of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.

With the competition being hosted by India, the fans have come forward with their takes on which side has the highest chance of clinching the trophy. However, it seems like the Blackcaps are not affected by the outside noise. New Zealand’s stand-in skipper, Tom Latham, came forward to talk about the same and reflected on how the side has their own expectations of the players and that they are only focused on what they have to do.

“Yeah, I think from our point of view, I'm sure, like most teams, we're not necessarily focused on what people are predicting. From our point of view, we're solely focused on what we have to do,” Tom Latham was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

The brand of cricket that we want to play at this World Cup is our main focus: Tom Latham

Latham also opined that instead of focusing on expectations, New Zealand has been focusing on the type of cricket they will be playing at the World Cup.

“The brand of cricket that we want to play at this World Cup is our main focus, and when it comes towards the end of the tournament, if we're in that position, then that’s great,” Latham said.

“But if we can play our brand of cricket in these conditions, which is obviously completely different to the last two ODI World Cups being in Australia and England, so we just want to come here and play some good cricket, play our brand of cricket, and if we do that, then we know we'll give ourselves a good chance of being there in the back end of the tournament,” he added.
