What England started under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, all the top teams are trying to implement the same in their T20I set-up. Indian captain Rohit Sharma previously stated how they want to adapt to a new style of cricket in T20I cricket and just before the T20 World Cup, Aussie captain Aaron Finch stated about being aggressive at the top to put pressure on the opponent right from the start.
In the second T20I against India, the 35-year-old played exactly the same way he wants the team to play. Batting first, Finch smashed 31 off just 15 deliveries and gave the middle order a good start to continue. However, Glenn Maxwell and Tim David, who were promoted up in the order, couldn’t really do any damage but it was Matthew Wade, who helped the team put 90 on board after 8 overs. That’s a good total, considering the likes of David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis were missing from the playing XI.
“Yeah. I think it's important that you're always looking at ways to improve and obviously, we went with (Glen) Maxwell at three, Tim David at four, so we're trying to be a bit more aggressive upfront and yeah, we haven't played too many shortened games,” Finch said about their approach as quoted by India Today.
Finch dissects Australia’s loss in the second T20I against India
Australia could have sealed the series in the second T20I in Nagpur but the Indian captain Rohit Sharma along with Dinesh Karthik played memorable knock to keep the series alive. The hitman smashed 46* off 20 deliveries while the Finisher Karthik played just two balls, and scored 10 runs to help India win the 2nd T20I of the series. Other than Adam Zampa, the bowlers looked pale as their line and length against Rohit Sharma were pretty ordinary according to the experts in the commentary box.
Given the rain played a massive role in shaping the game, Finch made some changes in the playing XI. Nathan Ellis, who picked three wickets in the first T20I was dropped from the squad and Josh Inglis' exclusion was also a surprising one.
“So I think especially leading into World Cup, we've put some thought into it under some time. Josh Inglis came out at the last minute, Sean Abbott took his spot. That was just to give us an extra bowling option, not knowing how the wicket would play. So there's just a little bit of execution with bat and ball, I think, at times that probably just swung the momentum of the game,” the captain said to explain his mindset behind the changes.
