The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is about to enter its third week and has already exposed some budding talents in various teams. The latest addition to this promising list is Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who put up a stellar show on his IPL debut in their outing against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday (April 3).

The Kolkata franchise scripted history in Visakhapatnam with the second-highest score in league history - 272/7 in 20 overs. RCB held the massive record for the highest team total for over 10 years, but Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) shattered it recently (277-3) in a clash against Mumbai Indians (MI). KKR came very close to setting the record to their name but they fell short by just six runs.

Opener Sunil Narine started the carnage and set the stage for other batters to do the rest of the damage While Andre Russell and Rinku Singh did the exploits as usual, a youngster became the talk of the town with attacking strokeplay in his very first match. Batting at number three, Raghuvanshi hit a 27-ball 54, including three sixes and five fours, contributing significantly to KKR’s historic game.

Who is Angkrish Raghuvanshi and what is his IPL salary?

Originally hailing from Delhi, Angkrish Raghuvanshi was part of India’s World Cup-winning U19 Men's 2022 team. The right-handed batter finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer for the Men in Blue with 278 runs at an average of 46.33. He has yet to play a first-class match but has already played List A and T20 games for Mumbai.

His remarkable performance at the international level caught the attention of IPL franchises and it was Kolkata who struck the golden deal for a sum of INR 20 Lakhs during the 2024 mini-auction. Raghuvanshi hit his maiden IPL half-century at the age of 18 years and 304-day-old, becoming the seventh youngest player overall to register a fifty in the tournament. Notably, he is one of only 23 players in the tournament's history to post a fifty-plus score in their maiden IPL innings.

“When I went into bat, it was just ‘watch the ball’, and that’s it. I think the amount of practice in the last few weeks, I just backed my instincts, and it happened,” Raghuvanshi said in the post-match presentation ceremony. Chasing a mammoth total, DC were bundled out for 166 runs as KKR bagged a huge victory of 106 runs.
