The Pink Test is one of the most prestigious games played at the Sydney Cricket Ground every year. This year, as well, Pakistan will be hosted by Australia at the iconic venue in Sydney for the esteemed clash from Wednesday, January 03. However, many are unaware of the actual significance that the Pink Test holds, and how it actually differs from the pink-ball Test.

It is to be noted that the Pink Test can be referred to as the first match of the year played at the aforesaid venue. The clash is also associated to the McGrath Foundation, which fights against breast cancer, as a tribute to the former pacer Glenn McGrath's late wife, Jane. For each Pink Test, the dedicated ladies' stand at the venue is given Jane's name as an honorary gesture.

To spread awareness about the chronic disease, the former Australia pacer's foundation unites with Cricket Australia for co-hosting the game. To support the cause, both the participating nations are seen donning pink caps while on the field. Every year, the Pink Test is more about playing in a sense of unity while still keeping the competition alive.

David Warner bids farewell to Tests and ODIs

Ahead of the third and final Test of the ongoing series, Warner announced to bid adieu to the red-ball format. While the New South Wales batter also stated to retire from the One-Day Internationals (ODI), he expressed his desire to feature in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, if the team wants him to be available. The southpaw has featured in 272 games and has added more than 15,000 runs to his tally, leaving the shortest format aside, and will retire as one of the most prolific cricketers to have graced the Australia jersey.

Speaking more of the third Test, both the teams have announced their respective Playing XIs a day prior to hitting the field. While the Pat Cummins-led side are going unchanged to keep their winning combination intact, it is Pakistan, who have announced a couple of changes. Ace pacer Shaheen Afridi has been rested owing to workload management, and has been replaced by off spinner Sajid Khan. Imam-ul-Haq, on the other hand, has cleared the way as Saim Ayub is set to open alongside Abdullah Shafique.
