Star Indian batter Virat Kohli and his Bollywood actor wife Anushka Sharma announced the birth of their baby boy on Tuesday, February 20. The couple revealed that they welcomed their son on February 15 and named him ‘Akaay’. Ever since the star couple made the announcement, their fans on the internet were sent into a frenzy and began searching for the meaning of their baby’s name.

Meaning behind the name 'Akaay'

The word 'Akaay' has various interpretations in both Sanskrit and Turkish languages. In Turkish, the word means ‘shining moon’, while in Sanskrit it means ‘Niraakaar’ or ‘formless’ or ‘immortal’. According to Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva is considered formless. Hence, the name ‘Akaay’ has a massive significance which also highlights Kohli’s recent shift towards religion and spirituality ever since his poor form from 2020 onwards.

“With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika’s little brother into this world! We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives.  We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time,” the couple informed their fans via social media.

Notably, Kohli had suddenly withdrawn from the first two Tests of the ongoing India vs England five-match series due to personal reasons. It was expected that the star batter might make a comeback in the remaining three Tests but he decided to withdraw from the entire series.

Virat Kohli to return in IPL 2024

Kohli’s good friend and former South African cricketer AB de Villiers was the first to reveal that the star batter is expecting his second baby. However, he ate his words after a few days and apologized for spreading rumours to keep the news confidential.

Earlier, Kohli also played just the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 and missed the remaining three matches as he flew back home for the birth of his daughter Vamika. The star batter will be next seen in action during the IPL 2024.
