Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur was the star with the ball during the Lucknow Super Giants versus Gujarat Titans game on Sunday. The 25-year-old pacer became the first bowler to grab a fifer during this season of IPL.
It was an awe-inspiring spell as LSG beat the Titans for the first time ever in IPL by a margin of 33 runs. This meant that Gujarat Titans have now won just two games this season out of the five games played.
The credit belongs to Yash Thakur who took the onus on himself to win his side the game. Mayank Yadav had walked off the field due to a side strain after bowling just one over for 13 runs. KL Rahul didn’t waste time in giving the ball to Yash Thakur who came good for his skipper.
How much is Yash Thakur’s IPL Salary?
Yash Thakur was a relative unknown with just a handful of games in the Indian domestic circuit. Lucknow Super Giants had no qualms in playing INR 45 lakh for his services when the ten teams sat down for IPL Auctions 2023 in late December 2022.
After an impressive showing in the first season, Yash Thakur was retained by LSG for the same amount in IPL 2024. The move and the belief levied on the young bowlers seem to have paid off as seen on Sunday in Lucknow.
The first wicket of the day for Yash Thakur was that of Shubman Gill for 19 runs. The GT skipper had no clue to the ball which was bowled well at his stumps at over 142 kph. After the loss of Gill, the Titans were hamstrung by the spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi.
Just as it looked like GT were heading back into the game, KL Rahul called upon Yash Thakur for his second spell. The youngster responded by getting rid of Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan in a space of three balls.
Rahul Tewatia was defiant as he scored 30 runs from 25 balls but with the asking rate climbing he had to go for his big shots. The fourth wicket was that of Tewatia caught by Pooran in the third ball of the 19th over. The fifer came in the form of Noor Ahmed who was caught by de Kock for a duck to mark a remarkable day for Yash Thakur.
