‘Wherever Booms (Bumrah) bowls, he's gonna make a massive impact for us’ - Tim David defends MI’s bowling plan against SRH

“There's obviously planning that happens around, who's bowling the first over. I think wherever Booms (Bumrah) bowls, he's gonna make a massive impact for us," David said.

The recently held clash in the IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians made history. Both sides took centre stage in the eighth game of the tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, March 27.

Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a total of 277 runs in the first innings after some exceptional batting performances by the side’s top-order. It was clearly a day to forget for Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack.

Youngster Kwena Maphaka bowled four overs and conceded 66 runs; Hardik Pandya conceded 46 runs and took one wicket; Jasprit Bumrah was hit for 36 runs, Gerald Coetzee conceded 57 runs in his four-over spell as Mumbai struggled to contain Hyderabad’s batters.

However, seeing the subpar bowling performance, star MI batter Tim David came forward in defence of the bowling plan that MI set for their opponents. Heaping praise on Jasprit Bumrah, David opined that whenever Bumrah bowls, he makes a huge impact for MI.

“There's obviously planning that happens around, who's bowling the first over. I think wherever Booms (Bumrah) bowls, he's gonna make a massive impact for us. So there's a lot of faith in wherever he wants to bowl. And I think we've seen that throughout the two games. He might take the new ball at stages, but again, I'm not making that decision, so it's hard for me to comment,” David was quoted as saying by India Today.

Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals next

After losing the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 31 runs, Mumbai Indians have now lost both the matches that they have played in the IPL 2024 so far. Sitting in ninth place in the standings with zero points, the Hardik Pandya-led side will be keen on improving and putting in better performances in their upcoming games.

For their next match, the five-time champions return to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai as they take on the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals, on Monday, April 1.
