'Whilst I never wish to disappoint, that door is now closed' - Sunil Narine provides massive update on upcoming T20 World Cup

Having not featured for the West Indies in an international game since August 2019, the willy off-spin wizard Sunil Narine finally decided to call it a day as far as his representing West Indies was concerned, making an official statement in November last year.

Talking about this year's IPL, the West Indian all-rounder's been in fine knick for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), accumulating 286 runs in 7 innings at a blistering strike rate of 176.54, having notched up a half-century and a century apiece. His performances with the ball haven't been bad either, with him taking nine wickets in seven innings at a miserly economy rate of 7.10. 

Following his promising start to the campaign, West Indies skipper, Rovmann Powell, featuring for the Rajasthan Royals, tried coercing Narine into overruling his retirement and representing the nation for the imminent T20 World Cup. Notably, the mega ICC (International Cricket Council) marquee event will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA in June, later this year.

However, recently, Sunil Narine took to Instagram on Monday to express that he had come to terms with his decision to retire from international cricket. The first slide of Narine's post conveyed that he was overjoyed and admired a whole lot of people being moved by his recent outings on the cricket field and for them to voice their wish for him to come out of retirement and play the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Sunil Narine sends his best wishes to West Indies for upcoming T20 World Cup

On the other hand, in the second slide of his Instagram post, Sunil Narine conveyed his best wishes for the West Indian team to partake in the T20 World Cup 2024. He hoped that his countrymen would potentially win another title for their fans. Besides, the former West Indies spin wizard also admitted that he'd rather take the back seat and cheer for the group.

Notably, a lot of the players in a spirited West Indies side have given it their all in the past few months and deserved to be a part of the structure. Not to forget that at one stage, they were on the brink of not being able to qualify for the coveted mega cricket carnival.
