Young Priyansh Arya, a talented southpaw hailing from Delhi, was bagged by the Punjab Kings for an amount of INR 3.8 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.. While the bidding process was initiated by the Delhi Capitals and the Mumbai Indians, it was PBKS who snatched the emerging prodigy at the end. An intense duel for the 23-year-old youngster was contested by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and PBKS, but it was the latter who secured the youngster.
Entering the event in Jeddah at a base price of INR 30 lakh, Arya was valued at nearly 13 times by PBKS. Arya's ascent to the limelight was when he played for the South Delhi Superstarz. He became the first player in the history of the Delhi Premier League to hit six sixes in an over. Additionally, he also scored 107* and 120 in the same tournament. Coming into the mega auction in Jeddah, Arya scored a spectacular 102 off 43 deliveries for his state against Uttar Pradesh at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
India's seasoned campaigner, Ravichandran Ashwin, spoke highly of one of his pickup shots which he played against Washington Sundar in the same tournament. Other than being the leading run-scorer in the DPL, Arya has also represented India at the U-19 level in internatioal tournaments alongside the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi.
His developing T20 career has seen him strike at 167.92. It will be intriguing to witness Arya's journey in the IPL. With newly-appointed head coach, Ricky Ponting, having had a history of backing youngsters in the past, it is anticipated that Arya won't have to wait too long to make his mark in the Indian Premier League. being a left-handed batter only adds to his utility in the squad. Getting incorporated in the PBKS setup will surely be an immense learning curve for Arya.
