Who is Shaik Rasheed? All you need to know about CSK's new signing in IPL Auction

Chennai Super Kings signed India U19 youngster Shaik Rasheed for base price of INR 20 lakh in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2023 on Friday (December 23). The 18-year-old batting all-rounder first surfaced after impressive performances in the Andhra Premier League 2022 (APL).

The Andhra-born right-handed batter was the leading run-scorer for Rayalaseema Kings in APL 2022 with 159 runs from just five innings at an average of 53.00 and a strike rate of 121.37 with the help of one half-century. He made the headlines for smashing 85* off 55 against Uttarandhra Lions in the Eliminator clash in APL 2022 season, which earned him a place in the Andhra cricket team in domestic cricket this season.

Rasheed made his debut for Andhra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 against Nagaland in October. He smashed 37* off 27 balls and conceded 12 runs from his one-over spell in the debut match. He featured in two more matches in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year and scored 56 runs from total of three innings. 

Andhra youngster has also appeared in three Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 matches this season but failed to make any impact with just 14 runs from three innings and no wicket from an innings. Earlier this month, he started for Andhra in their opening Ranji Trophy 2022-23 match but managed to score only eight runs across two innings against Mumbai.

• He scored 201 runs from just four innings at an average of 50.25 with the help of two fifties in the 2022 U19 World Cup.
• Rasheed has scored 334 runs from eight one-day games for India U19 team at an impressive average of 55.66 with the help of three fifties so far.
• He was the leading run-scorer for Rayalaseema Kings in APL 2022 with 159 runs from just five innings
• He made his debut for Andhra in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and smashed unbeaten 37 runs against Nagaland.
