A lot of dreams have come true in the Indian Premier League auctions over the years. Now, female cricketers have also got a chance to solidify their financial condition courtesy of the Women's Premier League (WPL). After a pathbreaking inaugural season, WPL is set to return for its second installment in 2024. On Saturday afternoon, the auction for the second season commenced in Mumbai.
Vrinda Dinesh is one of the players who made a big payday at the auction on Saturday, December 9. The Karnataka opener had a base price of INR 10 lakhs. It was anticipated by many that quite a few teams would be interested in acquiring her services.
Dinesh had also appeared for the trials conducted by all five teams in the off-season. In the WPL auction, three teams - Gujarat Giants, UP Warriorz, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore were in a tussle to rope her in. Eventually, the Warriorz put in the winning bid of INR 1.30 crore to bolster their batting resources. She will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best players in world cricket like Alyssa Healy, Sophie Ecclestone, and Deepti Sharma, among others.
