The Legendary Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is all set to lead his team for the 15th season in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Notably, Dhoni is the joint-most successful skipper in the history of IPL having led CSK to five titles. Ever since Dhoni bid adieu to international cricket in 2020, there have been widespread talks around the retirement of Dhoni from IPL as well.

However, the 42-year-old has returned year after year and inspired his side to title victories in 2021 and 2023. In the upcoming season, it is expected that the wicketkeeper-batter will finally hang up his boots and the speculations around   CSK’s next skipper have begun. Recently, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed the team’s plans around Dhoni’s successor. Viswanath further said that CSK owner N Srinivasan has left it up to the captain and coach to decide who will take the captaincy baton after Dhoni.

"In internal discussions, Srinivasan has made it very clear. Let's not talk about captain and vice-captain appointments. Let's leave it to the coach and the captain to decide. He has said that 'the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let's all keep quiet," said Viswanathan in an interview with S Badrinath on the latter's YouTube show.

Further speaking ahead, Viswanathan revealed Dhoni’s plans ahead of every season and stated that the captain’s focus is always on winning league games.

"Before every season, MS Dhoni tells us 'first let us concentrate on league games. We will look to qualify for the knockouts'," added Viswanathan.
