The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the chairman of selectors of the All-India Senior Selection Committee Chetan Sharma announced the squads for the national side that will tour for the upcoming ODI and T20I series. The selectors further announced the ODI and Test squads for the Bangladesh tour.
Interestingly, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson marks his return to the squad ahead of the New Zealand series. The Kerala lad will be the second choice keeper as vice-captain Rishabh Pant will be the main man behind the stumps in the ODI and T20I series against the Kiwis.
Squad for NZ T20Is: Hardik Pandya (C), Rishabh Pant (vc & wk), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson (wk), W Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik.
Squad for NZ ODIs: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Rishabh Pant (vc & wk), Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson (wk), W Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Shahbaz Ahmed, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik.
Sanju Samson excluded in Bangladesh tour
While Sanju Samson earned a call up in the national side for the New Zealand tour, the selectors have snubbed him in the squad for the tour to Bangladesh. Ishan Kishan makes the way for the second choice in keeper’s role in the ODIs while KS Bharat takes over in the Test side.
In any case, Samson has been provided with an opportunity that he will not be willing to squander and hope to make the most of it. Crucial knocks in these fixtures against New Zealand could help him be a part of the regular side later on with the World Cup scheduled to be played later on.
Squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, W Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Yash Dayal
Here's how Twitter reacted to Sanju Samson's inclusion:
Why only use sanju samson for 1 series, by far better than the other keepers available...

Rajat Patidar and and Rahul Tripathi instead of Sanju Samson is completely illogical.

As always, BCCI selectors' process beyond me. Gill in t20is when he's the better odi player. Bishnoi dropped despite brilliant performance. In one series we have kishan, in another we have Sanju Samson. #CricketTwitter

When they want to make place for someone , Sanju Samson is their answer..Lol they dare to leave him out even at this stage of his career..Clear indication that they just don't like him..
