WI vs ENG: Jos Buttler happy with lessons from losses in the Caribbean

England skipper Jos Buttler is happy with his team's performance despite losing the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies by 3-2. After a dismal performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the Three Lions lost the ODI series 2-1 against West Indies before losing the five-match T20I series, leading to multiple questions on Buttler's leadership.

Amidst all the concerns, Buttler clarified that there have been some ups and downs but the team management is not bothered much. Buttler said that some of the players have stepped up and he is happy with the positives. He added that the tour was a success for them as they learned a lot about the conditions in which the T20 World Cup 2024 will be played, with West Indies and USA set to host the event in June.

“Obviously some players have stood up and done really well. You want to win and I think we all wanted to win the series and it's hard to say when you've lost, but I think we've found out some good things. There's been lots of ups and downs throughout the year but it's always important to keep looking forward. We've obviously had five games out here in the Caribbean and had a really good look at what conditions will be like for the World Cup only six months away. So yeah, it's been a good series,” Buttler was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Ace pacer Jofra Archer joined the England team for training during the ODI series. The 28-year-old suffered a stress fracture during IPL 2023 and has missed the Ashes and the ODI World Cup since then. The ECB has decided to take things slow with Archer. Speaking about his return to training, Buttler stated that it was good to see Archer bowl well and added that it is important for the pacer to take some time and make his return to the squad.

“I haven't spoken to Jof. Obviously, I saw him in Barbados, it was good to see him back in training with us and bowling well. I know the medical team and staff have got a good plan for him and I think I speak on behalf of all England cricket fans and cricket fans around the world that we want to see Jof back and back for good. So I think it's important that he takes his time,” Buttler said.
