WI vs IND 2023: Virat Kohli achieves unique feat following visitor's first ODI win in Barbados
India defeated the West Indies by five wickets in the opening ODI.
The ODI series between the West Indies and India got off to the best of starts for the visitors. Dismantling the Windies’ batting lineup for just 114 runs in the first innings, team India were able to comfortably chase the target down in just 23 overs and win the game by five wickets.
However, one of the most talked-about moments from the game was the apparent batting position of ace batter Virat Kohli. Known for his destructive batting in the top order, the 34-year-old etched his name into a unique record after the first ODI.
Notably, Virat Kohli did not come in to bat after the fall of the first wicket, which is generally the case. Furthermore, Kohli did not bat even after India had lost as many as five wickets during the run chase. This was the very first time in his career that Kohli did not bat even after India lost five wickets in an innings. Earlier, Kohli has batted at number 7 in ODIs, but this time, he was positioned 8th.
India defeated West Indies by five wickets
Speaking of the game, the Indian team got off to a brilliant start as they came in to bowl after winning the toss. The magnificent performance by the Indian bowlers brought the hosts down to their knees. Skipper Shai Hope was the highest run-getter for the Windies with a score of 43 runs. However, as Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc, the West Indies were bundled out for a meager 114 runs in the first innings.
Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, whereas Jadeja picked up three with Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, and Mukesh Kumar striking once. Aiming to chase down the low total, the visitors did so with ease.
Losing five wickets in the process, India were able to score 118 and win the game by five wickets to stamp their authority on the white-ball series as well. After the first win, the Indian team will be keen on putting forth similar performances in the forthcoming matches and clinch the ODI series as well
