‘Will be very emotional moment’ - Harmanpreet Kaur on Jhulan Goswami’s final game

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front with a brilliant unbeaten century to help her side clinch the series 2-0 against England Women at their own backyard. The final ODI is set to be played at Lord’s on September 24 and this will be a special game for the whole team as veteran seamer Jhulan Goswami is all set to retire after the match.  

Goswami will finish as the highest wicket-taker in the ODI format with her currently tally reading 253 wickets in 203 games at an average of 22.1 and a stunning economy rate of 3.37. She made her debut way back in 2002 and has been serving the country for over two decades, which is a massive achievement for any cricketer. A handy batter down the order, Goswami has also played 12 Tests and 68 T20Is for India and she will have the ideal farewell as India has registered a historic ODI series victory in England.

Harmanpreet felt the upcoming third game at Lord’s will be special to the whole team as they will witness Jhulan Goswami taking the field for the last time in her international career. She was delighted to have taken an unassailable victory in the series and revealed that the Lord’s game will be emotional. The right hander highlighted the importance of finishing the series with a win and heaped praise on Goswami for having an influence on the young seamers in the side.  

"The Lord's game is very special for us because it's Jhulan's retirement and we wanted to enjoy that game without any pressure and I'm really happy that we were able to win today and now we can just have fun in that game. It's very important because that will be her last game. It will be a very emotional moment for all of us and we definitely want to win that game," Harmanpreet told in the post-match conference 

"When you win the first game, the second game is always important and we always try to finish that game as a winning side and today also we were looking at that only because we don't want to carry any extra pressure on ourselves going to Lord's. Moreover after winning the series, now we just want to have fun because I know it's the last game for her. We will definitely look to win that game but moreover we will just go and have fun there.” 

"She's someone who has taught us a lot. When I debuted she was a leader and I learned a lot from her and now our young bowlers, like Renuka [Singh] and Meghna Singh.. they are also learning from her. They are learning how she bowls and getting that rhythm from her. She's been a great inspiration for all of us and we've learned a lot from her," she added.
