Women's Ashes: Trent Bridge sells record tickets for first-ever five-day Test

Women's cricket has been on the rise over the last few years, and the much-anticipated Women's Ashes is living up to the billing in terms of attracting the crowd. England and Australia will tussle in a first-ever five-day Ashes Test at Trent Bridge, with 11,000 tickets sold for the opening Test match, more than any women's Test in the country.

While all the talk has been around Ben Stokes' juggernaut squaring off against Pat Cummins' WTC finalists later this month, the women's team will also indulge in a seven-match Ashes series, running concurrently with the men's fixture. They will kick off things with a one-off Test match which will be the first five-day affair between the two sides. 

Subsequently, the arch-rivals will tussle in two white-ball assignments following the series opener. A three-match T20I series will commence the white-ball series, followed by a three-match ODI series. While four points will be awarded to the winner of the Test, two points will be awarded for limited-overs fixtures. According to reports, the highly anticipated series has already sold more than 70,000 tickets.

Meanwhile, England's Tammy Beaumont, a veteran of seven Tests, expressed her excitement about playing a five-day Test this time, unlike the previous Test encounters between the two sides. The 32-year-old felt that the addition of the fifth day is more likely to get a result between the two sides as all the four-day Tests since 2015 have failed to produce a winner.

"It is really exciting that we have finally got a five-day Test. I have only played seven or eight Tests in my 12-year career, and all of them other than one have been draws, so to have that fifth day is really important. I love playing the format. It is a test; that word gives it away. It tests you physically, mentally, tactically, emotionally at times," England batter Tammy Beaumont said.
