Women’s IPL, WIPL auction 2023: Schedule, Base Price, All you need to know
Capped Indian players will have base prices ranging from INR 30 lakh to INR 50 lakh
The Women's IPL (WIPL) auction 2023 is likely to take place on February 11, subject to official confirmation. The base price of the inaugural auction of the WIPL has been divided into five categories ranging from INR 10 lakh to INR 50 lakh. The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has set a deadline for the registrations for the auction to be on January 26.
In the document titled 'Guidance note for Indian players' shared by the board with the Indian players, the base price also termed as the ‘reserve price’ for the capped Indian players starts at INR 30 lakh. Furthermore, the uncapped cricketers have been given two options to set themselves at a price of INR 10 lakh and INR 20 lakh.
The apex cricket board has invited applications for the player auction which is likely to be held in February with the date to be finalised soon. The league is set to replace the Women's T20 Challenge which was initially a two-team one-off game in 2018 and later expanded to a three-team tournament in 2019 with two more editions played 2020 and 2022.
Players to register with State Associations and not agents: BCCI
It is understood that the players participating in the auction are expected to register for the league with their respective State Associations directly and not via agents or managers.
“BCCI will only deal directly with the State Associations and at no time will have any communication with player agents or managers. Any failure by a player to abide by this condition will (unless BCCI in its sole discretion decides otherwise) result in the player’s name being withdrawn with immediate effect from the Auction Register and/or Auction List (as appropriate),” states the directive.
The inaugural edition of the WIPL will be played from the start of March till the end of the same month and the entirety of the event could be played in Maharashtra. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings are all believed to be interested in owning a team in the competition.
