In a piece of good news for Australia women, their star cricketer Alyssa Healy will be available to play the first semi-final against India in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup, in South Africa on February 23, 2023.
Alyssa Healy is currently third in the list of current leading run-scorers in this World Cup, with India's Smriti Mandhana just 3 runs ahead of her. It will definitely be a delight for fans from both the sides, as two of the best players from their respective sides will be locking horns and also be in the race to topple the other to progress in the list. However, England's Nat Sciver-Brunt is currently the highest run scorer.
'She’s had a great tournament so far and is going to play an important role' - Meg Lanning on Alyssa Healy's availability
“Yeah, we’ve got a full squad; Alyssa Healy is fit and available, which is great for us,” Australian skipper Meg Lanning confirmed Healy's availability for the semi-final against India, while speaking to reporters.
The Australian skipper said that the availability of Healy into the side was not only relieving but also extremely important, as the wicketkeeper-batter was their best opener and also their main batter who could provide them the starts they always needed to their innings.
Lanning also confirmed that Australia thus now have a complete 15-member squad to choose from, though she refrained from revealing any further details about the playing XI.
“She’s had a great tournament so far and is going to play an important role. So that’s nice, but it does make it pretty difficult to get it down to 11. And we’ve only just arrived and seen the conditions here, so we haven’t settled on what the team looks like yet, but it is nice to have everybody available.”
Annabel Sutherland was the player who was roped in as Healy's replacement for the semi-final, but now Sutherland will have to make way for the 32-year-old. Healy had to sit out of Australia's final pool game with a quadricep injury as a precautionary measure.
