Women's T20 World Cup 2023: Britney Cooper earns West Indies recall following Chedean Nation's injury
The West Indies have got off to a poor start to the Women's T20 World Cup as they have lost both matches played thus far.
The West Indies Women haven’t received the best of starts to their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. The Women in Maroon faced England and India in their first two matches, and they were unable to win any of them. The team will be looking to win its remaining matches and keep its hopes alive for qualification to the knockout stages of the tournament.
One of the team’s key players, Chedean Nation, was recently ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury. Nation has been replaced by middle-order batter Britney Cooper for the remainder of the Women's T20 World Cup. Nation wasn't able to perform for the West Indies in their back-to-back defeats against England and India. Nation has been ruled out of the event and it's a massive blow for the unit.
Cooper, 33, has represented the West Indies in 49 ODIs and 76 T20Is since making her international debut back in 2009. Despite playing numerous T20Is for the West Indies, Cooper has just managed an average of 11.10 in the shortest format. However, she was a key player in the Windies' 2016 title victory in India. She played a fabulous knock of 61 runs against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the tournament. She also scored the winning runs in the final against Australia at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
West Indies will look to win their remaining matches
After losing their first two matches of the T20 World Cup. The West Indies will have their eyes set on the remaining matches of the tournament. They face Ireland and Pakistan in their remaining group-stage games, and will look to win both matches if they want to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Their match against Pakistan could prove to be a tough encounter as the Bismah Maroof-led side is coming off of a win against Ireland.
