Australia have called up all-rounder Heather Graham to replace the injured pacer Tayla Vlaeminck for the remainder of the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The decision has been made just ahead of Australia's crucial final group match against India at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Vlaeminck's tournament came to an abrupt end during Australia's previous match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. The Victoria-born got her knee stuck in the turf during an attempt to save a boundary, resulting in a dislocated right shoulder. This was her first World Cup match since 2018, following a career affected by injuries.
Meanwhile, Graham, the 28-year-old seamer, brings a wealth of domestic experience to the squad. Her career-best figures of 4/8 came against India in Mumbai in 2022, where she also claimed a memorable hat-trick in the series finale.

Alyssa Healy's availability in question following foot injury
Meanwhile, captain Alyssa Healy;s participation is also under doubt after sustaining a right foot injury while batting in the same match. The team management is awaiting updates on her fitness as they prepare for the India clash.
Australia's coach, Shelly Nitschke, remained tight-lipped about the extent of the injuries, stating that the team would wait to share updates. While Vlaeminck's absence is confirmed for the remainder of the tournament, Healy's participation is not entirely ruled out.
Despite these setbacks, the defending champions are in a comfortable position in the tournament, sitting atop the table with six points and a net run rate of +2.786 after winning three out of three games. A victory against the Women in Blue would secure the side a spot as the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.
