Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur will host the final of the Women's ODI World Cup later this year. The 50-over spectacle will be played between September 29 and October 26.
Notably, Mullanpur has not hosted a women's international match up until now. Indore, Raipur, Vishakhapatnam, and Thiruvananthapuram are the other venues which will host the tournament's matches.
Much like Mullanpur, Raipur and Thiruvananthapuram have also not played host to any women's international game. Indore's Nehru Stadium has previously hosted two Women's World Cup games, however, no international cricket has been played at the venue ever since the Holkar Stadium was built. As for Vishakhapatnam, there have been five women's ODIs and six women's T20Is hosted at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium so far.
For the uninitiated, India is all set to host the Women's ODI World Cup for the fourth time. The Women's T20 World Cup in 2016 was the last time India hosted a women's ICC event. India Women exited in the group-stage during that tournament. The upcoming edition of the Women's ODI World Cup will be the first one post the retirements of stalwarts, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami.
The format for this year's tournament is the same as the 2022 edition; eight sides will play a total of 31 games. Apart from the hosts, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England have qualified for the tournament. The remainder of the two teams will be decided via the Women's World Cup Qualifier, which will be held in Lahore. In the case of Pakistan qualifying, the event will be played in a hybrid model. The United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka will be the two likely countries to host Pakistan's games.
