Netherlands all rounder Bas de Leede shone with both bat and ball during the second game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Pakistan on Friday, October 06. After picking 4/62 with the ball, De Leede top scored for his side with his innings of 67 (68) where he smacked six fours and two sixes.

The right-handed batter played one of the best shots of the match as he pulled Haris Rauf for a six on the fourth ball of the 29th over. The Dutch cricketer was even spotted winking at the Pakistan fast bowler after sending the ball over the fence.

With his all round show, De Leede etched his name in the record books as he became just the third player to score a fifty and pick a four-wicket haul on World Cup debut. Before him, former Zimbabwe cricketers Duncan Fletcher (1983) and Neil Johnson (1999) had also achieved the same feat.

De Leede got involved in a 70-run stand off 76 balls with Vikramjit Singh (52 off 67) for the third wicket and helped his side cross the 100-run mark. Earlier, with the ball, he got the prized scalps of Mohammad Rizwan (68 off 75), Iftikhar Ahmed (9 off 11), Shadab Khan (32 off 34) and Hasan Ali to register figures of 4/62 in nine overs. Courtesy of his spell, Netherlands managed to bundle out Pakistan in 49 overs with 286 runs on the board.

Apart from him, Colin Ackerman (2/39, 8 overs) also picked up two wickets for his side. However, de Leede’s all round show went in vain as Pakistan ended up winning the match by 81 runs. During their chase, apart from de Leede and Vikramjit Singh no other batter crossed the 30-run mark and Netherlands were eventually bundled out for 205.

Meanwhile, Netherlands will next face New Zealand in their second fixture on October 09 while Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka on October 10.
