In the wake of a stellar performance in the World Cup qualifier held in Zimbabwe, the Netherlands team is all set to participate in the forthcoming ODI World Cup, slated to commence on October 5, 2023, in India.
The pivotal victory was achieved after comprehensively defeating Scotland in a must-win qualifier match in Bulawayo as the win ensured that the Dutch side overpower the Scots in Net Run Rate. The standout performer, Bas de Leede, garnered the Man of the Match honors with a stellar performance of five wickets and a commendable 123 runs. This will mark their fifth foray into the ODI World Cup after participating in the 1996, 2003, 2007, and 2011 editions.
Before the World Cup campaign starts, the Netherlands are slated for a 12-day training camp in the vicinity of Bengaluru during the month of September. The prelude to the World Cup rendezvous for the Dutchmen, the pleasantly unexpected contenders for the championship, has been meticulously orchestrated by the Netherlands Cricket Board in conjunction with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
The designated training phase is scheduled from September 19 to October 1, to be held at the Alur facility of the KSCA. An official from KSCA corroborated this progression to Cricbuzz after a couple of Dutch officials apprised them of the initiative. While deliberations are underway to extend the training camp by a few weeks, possibly commencing from the initial week of September, definitive confirmation on this matter is yet to be procured.
"What a fantastic performance this Dutch team has achieved! Beforehand, qualification in the midst of so many Full Members seemed like a hopeless mission. The Orange-bellied all the doomsayers with brilliant game plans and unprecedented fighting spirit and deserved to make it to the final tournament," the Netherlands' official website said.
Netherlands' first match in the tournament is scheduled against Pakistan on October 6 in Hyderabad. It is essential to know that the itinerary of a couple of their matches might witness revisions, pending the final release of the World Cup's schedule by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
