World Cup 2023 schedule to be out during World Test Championship final
"We are looking at all the metros as venues for the tournament," Jay Shah said.
Following the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, team India would be travelling to England for their much-awaited clash against Australia in the World Test Championship final. After the WTC final, the world’s best sides would be gathering in India for arguably the biggest cricket tournament in the world, the ICC ODI Men’s World Cup.
The World Cup is scheduled to be held in the latter stages of 2023; many fans have been speculating about the possible schedule for the marquee tournament. With the schedule, the possible venues for the tournament could be announced soon as well.
With the WTC final right around the corner, there have been several reports emerging that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will be making the venues and schedule of the World Cup public during the clash between India and Australia.
Special General Meeting of the BCCI looking into facility management
Furthermore, a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI was recently held in Ahmedabad on May 27, where the board took notice of the deteriorating quality of the venues. With there being many stadiums across the country where the board took it upon themselves to improve the quality of the facilities provided, they even decided to form a committee to sanction grants for the venues.
The members of the board took part in a meeting where possible upgrades to the stadiums were discussed. Infrastructure improvement is one of the most heavily discussed topics. With the ODI World Cup fast approaching, the plan could be set in motion as soon as possible, and the upgrade could be finished by October or November, just in time for the tournament.
Furthermore, with the plan for venues of the World Cup, the BCCI also revealed that an office bearer will be given charge of specific venues. Continuing upon the same, Jay Shah said, "We are looking at all the metros as venues for the tournament."
