WPL 2023: Capri Global owned team to be known as Lucknow Warriors

Capri Global Holdings Private Limited are one of the five franchises that bought the rights to own and operate a team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). They bagged the Lucknow base for INR 757 crore and recently revealed that they will be known as Lucknow Warriors in the much-awaited tournament.
Rajesh Sharma, the Managing Director of the business house recently shared a statement revealing the name of the franchise and also stated that the Women’s Premier League provides them with a platform to showcase their initiatives on improving gender inequity. He also mentioned that it is a historic moment in cricket and their main aim is to inspire athletes and women from all walks of life.
“While growing our foothold in Sports, the Women’s Premier League provides a platform for us to showcase our many initiatives focused on improving gender inequity, such as our women-focused product Wishwas Loans, policies to include women as co-signer to increase agency in Home Loans or via our CSR activities that focus on women emancipation in villages across India.
"We are extremely proud to be a part of this historic moment in cricket, especially in being able to extend our support to some of the tremendously talented women in sports. Our aim is to provide inspiration to athletes and women in all walks of life, while breaking stereotypes,” said Sharma.
Other than their association with WPL, the capital house also owns teams likeRajasthan Warriors (KhoKho), Bengal Warriors (Kabaddi) and Sharjah Warriors in ILT20.
Meanwhile, the player auction of the new league is scheduled to take place on either 10 or 11 February. The season is reported to begin in the first week of March and will continue till March 24. A lot of franchises are already making their moves and finalising their coaches and support staff while the players have already registered their names for the league.
It is also reported that the entire tournament is going to take place in DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Wankhede Stadium will be kept aside for the Indian Premier League.
