In the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL), the Delhi Capitals took the field with five foreign players. Unlike in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where a side can field a maximum of four overseas players, in the ongoing WPL, a team can field up to five foreign players, given the fifth foreign player hails from an associate nation.

Now given Delhi are the only franchise to have a player from the associate nation, they had the luxury to field five foreigners against RCB. Courtesy of Tara Norris of The United States of America, they were able to do so in the match. The franchise fielded Meg Lanning, Marizanne Kapp, Alice Capsey, and Jess Jonassen as their four foreign players and Norris was the fifth one. When it comes to Bangalore, their foreign players were - Sophie Devine, Heather Knight, Ellyse Perry and Megan Schutt.

Shafali, Lanning gave a fiery start to Delhi

Talking of the match, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning gave Delhi Capitals a perfect start to their WPL campaign. The opening partnership of 162 runs helped the franchise post 223 runs on board and with that, Delhi will be very confident of their chances in the match.

Shafali, who’s known for her ferocious style of play, smashed 84 off 45 deliveries while skipper Lanning posted 72 off 43 deliveries. Soon after her dismissal, South Africa international Marizanne Kapp took the matter into her hands and played a brilliant cameo of 39* off 17 deliveries. Jemimah Rodriguez supported her well in the middle, scoring 22* off 15 deliveries.

Bangalore bowlers on the other hand had a terrible outing with the ball. Veteran pacer Megan Schutt conceded 45 runs in her four overs while Ellyse Perry leaked 29 runs in her three overs. Even though Heather Knight managed to pick up two wickets, she leaked runs at an economy rate of 13.30.
