WPL 2024: Alyssa Healy fiercely tackles pitch-invader during Match 6 against MI-W
The incident took place before the last ball of the first innings as a fan managed to breach security and came running onto the pitch.
UP Warriorz registered their first win of the Women’s Premier League 2024 as they beat the defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Match 06 on Wednesday, February 28 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Kiran Navgire was the star with the bat for UP who scored a blistering half-century off 25 balls. She was eventually dismissed after scoring 57 (31) clobbering six fours and four sixes in her innings and took home the Player of the Match award.
While several stars from both teams shone during the game, a pitch invader also made his appearance during the first innings of the match. The incident took place before the last of Mumbai Indians’ innings bowled by Anjali Sarvani. After Sarvani shattered S Sajana’s (4 off 2) stumps and sent her back into the pavilion, a fan managed to breach the security and run onto the pitch.

However, his heroic moment was turned into a nightmare in no time as he was fiercely tackled by UP Captain Alyssa Healy. The wicketkeeper batter managed to stop the fan from running further before the security personnel took him away.
Coming back to the match, Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) were without their regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur and fast bowler Shabnim Ismail who were both ruled out due to a niggle. Hence, MI brought in fast bowler Issy Wong and batter Humaira Kazi as replacements with Nat Sciver-Brunt taking over the captaincy duties. On the other hand, UP brought in Sarvani in place of Gouher Sultana.
Hayley Matthews scored a half-century for Mumbai
After being put in to bat first, Mumbai got off to a good start with openers Yastika Bhatia (26 off 22) and Hayley Matthews (55 off 47) adding 50 runs for the first wicket off 48 balls. Captain Brunt (19 off 14), Amelia Kerr (23 off 16), Pooja Vastrakar (18 off 12) and Issy Wong (15* off 6) also made valuable contributions as MI-W finished their innings on 161/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, UP openers blew away MI with Alyssa Healy (33 off 29) and Kiran Navgire (57 off 31) adding 94 runs for the first wicket off 56 balls. Following their dismissals, Grace Harris (38* off 17) and Deepti Sharma (27* off 20) took their team home in just 16.3 overs with their unbeaten 65-run stand.
