Arundhati Reddy from Delhi Capitals has been fined 10% of her match fees for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during her team’s match against UP Warriorz at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday.

Arundhati admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match.

For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 26, as Delhi Capitals took on UP Warriorz at the iconic Chinnaswamy field. Although Delhi Capitals won the match, it was Reddy who suffered a blow to her match fee due to her behaviour being against playing conditions, as defined under the laws set by the WPL Committee.

Skipper Lanning, Verma lead Delhi home

Speaking of the match, the UP Warriorz came in to bat first on Monday. Their innings could not get off to a dream start, courtesy of tight line and lengths bowled by DC Women. Halfway through the innings, Warriorz failed to cross 50-run mark, and had already lost four of their key batters. Delhi pacer Marizanne Kapp was the main instigator in this, as she bowled a maiden over in her spell, and conceded just five runs, while also taking three wickets.

Speaking of the chase, the Meg Lanning-led side needed 120 runs to win. The skipper alongside youngster Shafali Verma set the tone right up, and notched up a 119-run stand for the first wicket, when the scores were level. Jemimah Rodrigues hit a boundary to seal the deal for Delhi, as they won their first match of the season after a close encounter against Mumbai Indians in the season opener.
