WPL 2024: Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana's absence intensify Gujarat Giants' problems
Gujarat Giants, who finished at the bottom of the table in 2023, are yet to register their first win in the ongoing edition.
After finishing last on the points table last year, Gujarat Giants are once again languishing at the bottom in the ongoing edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024. To make matters worse, the physical conditions of two of their experienced players, Harleen Deol and Sneh Rana, have become a concern.
Gujarat Giants suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament on Sunday, March 3 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru against Delhi Capitals by 25 runs. Ahead of the match, while speaking to the broadcasters, legendary cricketer Anjum Chopra revealed that Harleen experienced discomfort in her thigh and her quadriceps. The former India batter also stated that Gujarat vice-captain Rana was ruled out due to illness.
Veteran Veda Krishnamurthy and Tarannum Pathan replaced the duo in the playing XI for the match against Capitals. However, both of them failed to make an impact. While Veda was dismissed for 12, Tarannum bowled one over and conceded 10 runs and managed only 9 runs with the bat.
Gujarat are yet to register their first win in WPL 2024. They have a dreadful net run-rate (NRR) of -1.804 and need a monumental miracle to reach the play-offs.
