WPL 2025: Gujarat Giants Women retained players, released players and purse remaining ahead of auction

Gujarat Giants have made some bold decisions ahead of the WPL 2025 mini-auction. The franchise finished at the bottom of the table in both 2023 and 2024 and to change that, they have released some key players to free up their purse, with Sneh Rana, Kathryn Bryce, Trisha Poojitha, Veda Krishnamurthy, Tarannum Pathan and Lea Tahuhu not retained.

Notably, 34-year-old Tuhuhu had a great time in the T20 World Cup 2024, where she picked up a three-wicket haul against India and bowled an economical spell against South Africa in the final, which the White Ferns won by 32 runs.

Meanwhile, Gujarat releasing Rana was a shocker, given that the all-rounder led the team in the first edition when Beth Mooney was unavailable. Senior batter Veda Krishnamurthy has also been released. She played only four games for the franchise and scored 22 runs.

On the other hand, the franchise has  have kept the core foreign unit, which features the likes of Mooney, Ashleigh Gardner, Laura Wolvaardt and Phoebe Litchfield. They have a strong foreign core but will have to add quality Indian players to challenge for the title. The Giants the likes of Dayalan Hemlatha, Harleen Deol and Tanuja Kanwer among others but when it comes to consistency, none of the cricketers stands out.
