UP Warriorz Women secured a thrilling win in Match 9 of the 2025 edition of the Women's Premier League at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru by triumphing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women via a Super Over.

At the end of 20 overs, both the sides were level on scores. UP-W were ultimately bundled out by RCB-W on the last over of the second innings in a thrilling finish where the former fell one run shy of the target, requiring 18 runs off the final over.

Although there were no boundaries scored in the one-over tie-breaker, it was a high-octane few minutes which played out between the two sides before UP-W went on to defend the nine-run target they had set.

Talking Points from Match 9 of WPL 2025:

1. Ellyse Perry emerges as lone battler once again

Scoring her third half-century this WPL season, Perry was yet again the one who scored the most runs for RCB-W. The next-highest run-getter was Danni Wyatt-Hodge with 57.

2. Death bowling woes persist for RCB-W

Bowling in the business end of the opposition's innings has been an issue which has plagued the franchise on many occasions. In fact, they were in a winning situation in this game. However, they conceded 55 runs in UP-W's final five overs to give them a proper shot at victory.

3. Ecclestone provides all-round display

Not only did the English bowler bowl a splendid four overs conceding only 29 before defending the Super Over target set by her side, but it was her effort with the bat which was the main reason for the win. She came to her side's rescue with a priceless 33-run blitz.

Who Said What?

Losing skipper, Smriti Mandhana

It was disappointing, we did a lot of things right in the batting innings and bowling innings. These things happen in cricket, we will take it and come back stronger. I have been positive in this tournament. Will work on a few things and come back stronger. Went into a shell today. It's always good to have an all-rounder like her, she (Perry) is one of the greatest in Women's cricket. Her bowling is very crucial for us. All the bowlers bowled extremely well, such things happen in cricket. We take a lot of pride in it, we will take it in our stride and move forward.

Winning skipper, Deepti Sharma

I am trying to control my nerves, especially in such games. What a game of cricket it was. This was possible because of Sophie's batting. We played positive cricket as a batting unit. Haven't had the time to have a word with her. Just tried to back Sophie and she showed her character today. She is a world-class bowler. We aren't playing according to the venue. We want to play our best cricket as a unit. We will celebrate soon, after going back to the hotel.

Player of the Match, Sophie Ecclestone

It was an amazing game. I never get nervous to bowl, that was the first time I was nervous (while bowling the super over.) It was a massive team effort, so well done to us. I was quite fuming at that time. It was quite hard, I just had to run. Happy to get the smile on our face. Hopefully we get three from three here. Everyone was great, it was a great team effort.
