UP Warriorz have roped in young Australian batter Georgia Voll as a replacement for Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu for the rest of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025. Athapaththu has left the tournament to resume national duties with Sri Lanka, ahead of their tour of New Zealand starting on March 4.
The Australian batter signed up for UP Warriorz for INR 30 lakh. Her addition bolsters the squad as the Warriorz look to secure a spot in the playoffs. Voll is one of the most talented young batters going around in women's cricket. She had an impressive start to her international career, scoring a century in her second ODI appearance against India at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on December 5, 2024.
Voll was also picked in Australia's squad for the 2025 Women's Ashes series. She made her T20I debut against England at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on January 20, 2025.
In the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024-25, Voll amassed 330 runs from 12 matches for Sydney Thunder at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 144.73. She registered two half-centuries in the tournament, hitting a total of 45 fours and five sixes.
UP Warriorz are currently placed at No. 4 on the points table, only above Gujarat Giants. The Deepti Sharma-led side has won two matches and lost three out of the five they have played. They started with consecutive defeats before bouncing back with back-to-back wins. In their last match on Wednesday, February 26, the Warriorz lost to Mumbai Indians comprehensively.
Grace Harris starred with the bat for the Warriorz as she made a 26-ball 45, giving her team a great start. However, the rest of the batters couldn't capitalise as the Warriorz were reduced to 142/9 in 20 overs. Mumbai made light work of the chase as they romped home with eight wickets and three overs to spare.
