WPL 2025: UP Warriorz Women retained players, released players and purse remaining ahead of auction

UP Warriorz failed to make it to the playoffs in the last edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Despite so, the team decided to keep its core intact and build around the star players who made a difference in the last couple of years. Captain Alyssa Healy has been retained and she will once again be very important to the team, having already scored 427 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 130.48.

Her national teammates Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath have also been retained by UP. The latter is in terrific form for Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League, having hit two half-centuries in four matches. The all-rounder has played 13 matches for Gujarat, scoring 329 runs at 146.22 and also has three wickets. 

Star England spinner Sophie Ecclestone has also been retained. The 25-year-old has been phenomenal in the WPL, picking up 27 wickets in 17 matches. Among Indian cricketers, Deepti Sharma has been retained. She was terrific in the Women’s Hundred but since then, the 27-year-old hasn’t been at her best. She represented Gujarat in 17 games, scoring 385 runs and picking up 19 wickets.

Meanwhile, Lauren Bell has been released. The 23-year-old wasn’t handed any game time last season and was eventually released. On the other hand, Danni Wyatt-Hodge has been traded to RCB.
