Nat Sciver-Brunt was the pick of the bowlers for MI with figures of 3/18, and was supported by Shabnim Ismail (2/33) and Sanskriti Gupta (2/11).

Chasing 143, the former champions started slowly but gained control once Sciver-Brunt arrived at the crease. Yastika Bhatia fell early for a duck, but Hayley Matthews (59 off 50) and Sciver-Brunt (75* off 44) stitched together a match-winning partnership of 133 runs. Harmanpreet sealed the win in style, flicking Sophie Ecclestone for a boundary to finish at 143/2 in just 17 overs. With this emphatic victory, MI find the top spot in the points tally with six points, while the UP-based franchise currently hold the fourth spot on the WPL 2025 points table.

Then, with the bat, she played a match-winning knock, smashing an unbeaten 75 off just 44 balls, laced with 13 boundaries. With the innings, Brunt became the leading run-getter of the season with 254 runs in four innings. For her contributions, she was handed the Player of the Match award.

2. Hayley Matthews anchors MI's innings

The West Indian batter Hayley Matthews played a crucial hand in this game with the bat, scoring a solid 59 runs off 50 balls. Her innings included 7 boundaries and 2 sixes, helping her team chase down the target of 143 runs with ease. Despite losing her opening partner early, Matthews steadied the ship. Losing skipper, Deepti Sharma, said

We lost back-to-back wickets and if we had got a partnership, we could have got to 160-170. (On Grace Harris) Her role was to play to her strengths in the powerplay and she did that perfectly. We'll come back stronger. There are some takeaways from this loss. We need to work on building partnerships in the middle-order.

Winning Skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, said

Whatever we tried to executed came out well. Really happy with the result. Getting a wicket in the first over is really crucial. And Nat bowled really well. You just need to do the right thing again and again and Sanskriti's wickets turned it around. She is really sorted and bowled really well. I think we have got a lot of experience in our side and everyone knows her role. [On Sciver-Brunt] She batted really well and showed her talent. The pitch was looking different when she batted.

Player of the Match, Nat Sciver-Brunt, said

Yeah, I guess so (has she hit a purple patch?). Enjoying my batting at the moment. Feel good of myself. We always talk about the key players. We always talk about the key players - she has played a couple of brilliant innings for UPW. We put our plans in place. It's great when it comes off. On another day she might've hit it in the stands. The fight that we have in our group is brilliant. On a given day, anyone can put in a match-winning performance.
