The much-awaited auction for the second season of the Women’s Premier League will take place on Saturday, December 09 in Mumbai. After a successful first edition of the premier women’s T20 competition of India, the second instalment is likely to take place in February-March next year.
Several big names from international cricket will go under the hammer during the auction as the five franchises get into a bidding war to have them in their squad. A total of 165 players will be up for grabs out of which 104 are Indians while 61 are overseas players. Each team can have a maximum of 18 players in their squad and the five franchises in total have 30 slots remaining to be filled which includes nine overseas slots. Mallika Sagar Advani will be the auctioneer of the event once again.
Ahead of the auction, all five franchises released their list of retained and released players by the deadline of October 15, 2023. The runner-ups of the first season, Delhi Capitals have retained the most number of players (15) followed by the defending champions Mumbai Indians who have retained 13 players in their squad along with UP Warriors.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, who finished on the second last spot on the points table have 11 players in their squad and Gujarat Giants, who finished on the last spot have the least number of players (8) in their squad. The auction will ve
