WPL is an exciting opportunity for the associate players: Kathryn Bryce
The 26-year-old all-rounder was signed by Gujarat Giants for INR 10 lakh during the previous year's auction.
Kathryn Bryce, the captain of Scotland, views the 2024 Women's Premier League (WPL) as an exciting chance to showcase her skills in front of associate players. The 26-year-old all-rounder was signed by Gujarat Giants for INR 10 lakh during the previous year's auction.
She will have the opportunity to become the first player from her country to compete in a T20 tournament in India, either the women's or men's (the IPL) when the Giants play the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, February 25. She is trying to strike a balance between the thrill of competing in popular competitions and the responsibility of showcasing the abilities of players from underrepresented nations.
"I think it's an exciting opportunity to be able to go out there and perform for the associate players. It's obviously a privilege to be able to do it but also, I guess, a little bit of pressure to go out there and perform for the associate nations and kind of show what they can do. So yeah, definitely a really exciting opportunity," Bryce told Sportskeeda.
As an adaptable batter, she began her career at George Watson's College in Edinburgh, where she was the first female player in the boys' first eleven. She and her sister Sarah, a wicketkeeper-batter, became the stars for Associate nations when they were awarded full-time domestic contracts in England in December 2020. Bryce was named the 2011–20 ICC Associate Player of the Decade, for which Sarah was also nominated. The former made history the following year when she became the first player from Scotland to rank in the top 10 of the ICC Player Rankings for either bowling or batting.
Although they had no idea that cricket would become their career, their talents got them a career in the sport. As the national team's captain and vice-captain, the duo has already become an inspiration for the girls in Associate nations.

"A lot of people who play cricket are aware of it and have been able to watch it a bit, but I think hopefully, it'll grow even further with the participation that I've won as well," the 26-year-old added.
