The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to begin on March 4. Five teams will battle it out for the silverware, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Following the auction of the tournament, every franchise roped in some big names to their respective sides. Royal Challengers Bangalore went big as they roped in names like Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Sophie Devine.

The tournament will begin at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, where the Gujarat Giants will take on the Mumbai Indians in the first match of the league.  In the first season, the WPL will conduct a total of 20 league matches and 2 playoff games. All 22 games will be played in less than a month, as the final is scheduled to be held on March 26.

Mumbai to host Women's Premier League

As it was confirmed earlier as well, every match of the inaugural WPL will be held in Mumbai. A total of 22 matches will be played across the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The first double-header of the tournament is scheduled to be held on March 5.

Across the tournament, there will be four doubleheaders, with the first of the same starting at 3:30 p.m. IST and the second match starting at 7:30 p.m. IST. It is tough to predict a favourite team to win the inaugural WPL, as every franchise has talented players in their arsenal.

Delhi Capitals also managed to build a squad of integral players; the Delhi-based side roped in Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and the T20 World Cup winning skipper Meg Lanning.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was roped in by the Mumbai Indians; they also brought in Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, and Yastika Bhatia as well.
