Sri Lanka continues their domination over Bangladesh and is in the sixth position after securing a victory in the first Test match at Sylhet. After losing the ODI series, the visitors came back strong in the opening Test to take a lead of 1-0 over the hosts, Bangladesh. And with this emphatic win, the visitors saw themselves raise their position in the latest World Test Championship (2023-25) standings.
Sri Lanka, have moved up to the sixth position and have the same number of points and points percentage (PCT) as Bangladesh after clinching a resounding 328-run win. Stellar performances from skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis, who scored brilliant centuries in both the innings of the Test match, respectively guided the team to a dominating victory in Sylhet.
De Silva scored 102 and 108 for which he was awarded the Player of the Match award, while Mendis scored 102 and 164, respectively. Kasun Rajitha (8 wickets in the game) and Vishwa Fernando (7 wickets) were the best bowlers for the visitors as they picked up a total of 15 wickets between them in the encounter.
On the other hand, Bangladesh, who were high on confidence after a 2-1 victory in the ODI series, found themselves on the back foot throughout the match. Mominul Haque's 87 in the second innings was the only notable contribution from the Bangla Tigers.
Bangladesh look to stage comeback in Chattogram
After the win, the Lankan Lions moved to sixth position with 12 points and a PCT of 33.33. Bangladesh share the same points percentage, but are placed a position lower as Sri Lanka have beaten them.
Pakistan have climbed one position to secure the No.4 ranking with a point percentage of 36.66, while West Indies, despite sharing an identical points percentage with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, have surged to No.5 due to their superior points tally of 16.
The upcoming second Test at Chattogram will be an exciting clash as the hosts will be looking to level the two-match Test series. Sri Lanka will look to clean sweep the series in the upcoming clash.
