Sri Lanka put up a wonderful performance in the first Test of the two-match series against New Zealand to go 1-0 up. It was an incredible performance from the hosts who came back quite well despite conceding a first innings lead on the third day of the game.
Not many were expecting the Lankans to come back in the game after they could only put up four additional runs to their second innings as they got to 309. The Kiwis only needed 275 runs to achieve victory to register victory with a bit over five sessions to chase the target.
However, a spirited performance was put up as the duo of Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya toiled really hard like they did in the first innings of the visitors as they scalped 15 out of the visitors' 20 batters to script a famous victory.
