The Pat Cummins-led Australia scripted history as they defeated India by 209 runs in the final of the World Test Championship final 2023. Across the five days, the Aussies dominated India in every aspect of the game. Steve Smith and Travis Head were fabulous in the first innings, whereas Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon impressed with the ball when India looked to chase down a target of 444 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli stood at the crease when Day 5 began; however, Lyon and Boland’s brilliance saw the Indian batters quickly return to the pavilion in heartbreaking fashion. After winning the game by 209 runs, celebrations ensued as Australia had won the ultimate Test match and clinched their first WTC title as well. As the celebrations got underway, many players were captured with their family members, as they were just as involved in the title win as well.
As the pictures of the celebrations went viral on social media, there were many moments on the field after the game that the players would cherish for years to come. Partners and children of the players ran to the field as the Australian team did a victory lap at The Oval.
In a heartwarming picture, the daughters of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne were captured donning their father’s baggy green caps. Furthermore, Player of the Match Travis Head was seen posing with the WTC mace in his hand and his daughter and wife alongside him.
Also, as has been the tradition for so long, the players sang 'Under the Southern Cross', which was led by Nathan Lyon on the field after the historic victory. The Australia's women’s skipper, Alyssa Healy, was also captured enjoying a beer alongside her husband, Mitchell Starc, and other teammates.
