Coming in to chase the target of 444 runs in a bid to win the ICC World Test Championship Final, team India looked keen on starting off their second innings well. As Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took a strike, both batters got off to a good start.
However, Scott Boland struck once again, as Gill was sent packing for 18 runs in 19 deliveries. Gill was dismissed on the first ball of the eighth over after he nicked the ball straight into Cameron Green’s hands. Following his dismissal, Rohit Sharma could not help but hide his frustration, as he was very animated following the wicket.

However, his dismissal attracted a lot of controversy as well. Many opined that the ball touched the ground when Green caught it. Although, the ultimate decision was Gill being given out. Gill was unable to impress with his performance in the first innings. It was Scott Boland who sent him packing, and once again Boland’s delivery dismissed Gill.
India’s run chase in turmoil following early wickets
Coming in to chase down a target of 444 runs, the Indian team got off to a good start to the run chase. Following Gill’s dismissal, skipper Rohit Sharma did look to be in the flow. The 36-year-old amassed 43 runs in 60 deliveries before he was sent packing by Nathan Lyon. Furthermore, Cheteshwar Pujara failed to make an impact on the game as well.
The veteran batter failed to impress in the first innings, and he followed it up with a score of 27 runs in 47 deliveries. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon have impressed in the second innings with the ball. Following the end of Day 4’s play, it could be interesting to see how India bounces back from the early dismissals, and if they are able to chase the mammoth target down.
