Yashasvi Jaiswal equals Virat Kohli's record for most runs in bilateral series against England

In what could be termed as record breaking spree in the series, Yashasvi Jaiswal has registered his name alongside Virat Kohli in Indian cricket history. With a masterful performance, he has equalled Kohli's record for the most runs by an Indian batter in a bilateral Test series against England. Arriving at the crease in the Ranchi Test, Jaiswal stood on the cusp of creating record, as he needed 37 runs to match Kohli's milestone of 618 runs set during the 2016-17 series when England toured India.

The morning saw a tense moment with a DRS review against Tom Hartley, but Jaiswal's focus remained unwavering as he swiftly notched up the required runs, levelling with Kohli. However, the tale of his innings was not without its twists. A brilliant catch by James Anderson, off the bowling of Joe Root, brought an end to his innings, notwithstanding his valiant efforts. Additionally, a potential run-out scare with Rohit Sharma kept the nerves jingling, as Rohit narrowly made his ground in time.

As the series progresses, the southpaw will set his sights on further milestones. His eyes are set on emulating Sunil Gavaskar as the second Indian to breach the 700-run mark in a bilateral series, with the upcoming Test in Dharamshala providing the stage for potential glory. Moreover, he will look to break the records held by Graham Gooch and Joe Root for most runs scored in a single India vs England Test series, currently at 752 and 737 runs respectively.

Jaiswal has been on song against England

The 22-year-old's heroics in the ongoing series against England have been nothing short of phenomenal. From his aggressive 80 in Hyderabad to the monumental 209 in Vizag, and another double century in Rajkot, he has been the linchpin of India's success. Notably, his back-to-back double hundreds placed him in esteemed company alongside Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.

Furthermore, the young batter's meteoric rise saw him emerge as the Indian batter with the most runs after 8 Tests, boasting an impressive tally of 971 runs. This feat placed him second only to the legendary Don Bradman, who amassed 1210 runs during the same period. With an average of 93.57 in the ongoing series, the Uttar Pradesh cricketer's star shall continue to ascend and is set for further milestones, if he manages to keep his form intact.
