Yere Goud returns for second stint as Karnataka head coach

Yere Goud is now set to take charge for the 2024-25 domestic season after the former Karnataka batter has been appointed as the home side's head coach. He will be replacing PV Shashikanth, who will now move to Tripura to assume the same role.

Goud ascends from his tenure with the Under-23 squad, whom he guided to a historic CK Nayudu Trophy title this year. Previously, he had steered the senior team for four seasons, commencing in 2018.

During his previous stint, Karnataka was eliminated in the quarter-final stage of the Ranji Trophy, they advanced to the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and failed to progress beyond the group stage in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The dominant forces of the Indian domestic circuit will be anticipating a significant uplift and the potential addition of titles to their already expansive trophy cabinet with Goud at the helm.

Goud, a distinguished middle-order batter with an illustrious first-class career, accumulated a formidable total of 7,650 runs across 212 innings, maintaining an impressive average of 45.53. He will now be joined by Mansur Ali Khan and Shabarish P. Mohan, who will serve as the bowling and fielding coaches, respectively, further enriching the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

In the interim, Shiraguppi Somasekhar, a former Karnataka batter who commenced his first-class career in the same season as Goud, will succeed Goud as the head coach of the U23 team.
