Former India head coach Rahul Dravid is not someone who shows a lot of emotions on the field. However, after India’s seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, the 51-year-old displayed his other side, celebrating wildly with the trophy. He tried to stay away from the limelight for the longest time possible but when Virat Kohli handed him the trophy, he showed his aggressive nature, following the hard-earned triumph.

Speaking about that, Dravid revealed that he didn’t plan any of those and was just happy with India’s win. He asserted that as a coach, he always tried to keep his emotions in check but at that time, he wanted to celebrate with the team and his coaching staff as they worked very hard to get the job done.

“You don't plan these things. In most times, I try to keep my emotions in check as a coach and you are expected to do that. But at that time, I felt really happy for the team. I felt happy for the boys. I felt happy for the support staff. So many people who had worked really hard along with me,” Dravid said while talking to Star Sports.

The former cricketer also talked about the luck factor that is needed to win global tournaments. India qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2022 but lost to England, and in 2023, they lost to Australia in the World Test Championship final and in the ODI World Cup final. He added that the team failed to cross the line at crucial times but was happy that they finally did in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I had been with the team for 2.5-3 years and we had come close a few times, whether it be the semifinals of the last T20 World Cup in Australia, the World Test Championship final or the 50-over World Cup final in India, and we were just not able to cross the line in those critical moments. In those situations you need a little bit of luck, a little bit of destiny to work your way and that day it was with us," he stated in the same conversation.
