With Afghanistan’s defeat against Pakistan, India have been eliminated out of Asia Cup 2022. After their failure in the T20 World Cup in 2021, many believed that India will be able to win their 8th Asia Cup in history. However, after back-to-back poor performance, India have only themselves to blame for their exit.
Whether luck plays a role in a game of cricket or not is an age old discussion. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes if luck favours India, they win the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
“India has got a good squad and they have the correct set of players. They just need to click at the right time. You need the luck factor whenever you are aiming to win a trophy. Be it the toss, or a few crucial moments, it needs to go your way. I hope that goes in India’s way like it has gone for Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” said Jaffer on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
I hope India plays with a set squad and doesn’t chop and change too much: Jaffer
Ever since Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the Asia Cup, India have been forced to make few changes to their XI. Dinesh Karthik was dropped as India needed a southpaw in the middle while Deepak Hooda was brought in as a finisher.
Jaffer said that India will not change their squad so often in the T20 World Cup. “There’s a lot of quality in the Indian team and there are a lot of players in the squad. I just hope that we play with the right combination and select the right kind of players and not chop and change too much,” said Jaffer.
