In an exciting IPL 2024 clash at the Eden Gardens on April 16 evening, Rajasthan Royals (RR) pulled off a brilliant two-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) thanks to a sensational unbeaten century from Jos Buttler. While the English opener's heroics were hailed by all, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh had some strong words for young Riyan Parag's approach.
KKR posted a mammoth 223/6 on the board courtesy of a magnificent 109 from Sunil Narine. In response, RR seemed to be down and out at 121/6 after 13 overs. However, Buttler held firm at one end and single-handedly took his team over the line with an unbeaten 107 off just 60 balls.
Harbhajan lauded Buttler's composure and match-winning ability. "He (Buttler) is a special player. He is a different-level player. He is calm and composed. Whenever he got the chance, he hit sixes, and fours and grabbed singles and doubles. When the other players are getting out, holding your batting and playing your own game is important," the former off-spinner told Star Sports.

The 43-year-old also pointed out the importance of staying till the end to guide the team to victory, something young Riyan Parag failed to do. Parag scored a brisk 34 off just 14 balls but got out to Harshit Rana rather recklessly.
"A lot of youngsters need to learn from Buttler's innings. Riyan is a talented player. He scored 34 runs but this is how matches are won. You need to be there, you need to hold the fort," Harbhajan added.

The seasoned campaigner further stressed the need for having a clear game plan and the ability to execute it under pressure.
"You have that clear mindset to play which shot to play against which bowler. This is not the first time Jos Buttler has done it. He has done this several times and I am sure we will see him do this a lot more time in the future as well. He is one of the legends of the game," the former spinner concluded.
The Sanju Samson-led side, currently leading the points table with six wins from seven matches, will face Mumbai Indians in their next encounter in Jaipur on April 22.
